Jimmy Carter: Biden declares Jan 9 national mourning day

U.S. President Joe Biden has designated January 9 as a national day of mourning to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter.

In a White House proclamation on Sunday, Biden encouraged Americans to visit their places of worship to pay tribute to the former leader.

“I urge the American people to gather in their respective places of worship on that day to honor the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr. I also invite people around the world who share in our sorrow to join us in this solemn occasion,” Biden stated.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, passed away at the age of 100 in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday.
