Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, over allegations of gross misconduct.
The governor announced the suspension during a press conference at the New Government House in Centenary City, Abakaliki.
According to Nwifuru, the suspension followed the commissioner’s failure to comply with directives to address local government workers’ demands for timely payment of gratuities. The governor emphasized that his administration had already implemented local government autonomy, ensuring that funds from the Federal Allocation Account are transferred directly to council accounts.
Addressing another allegation, Nwifuru denied knowledge of any reported charge of ₦2,100 for auditing local government workers, assuring that an investigation would be conducted to uncover the truth and take necessary corrective actions.
