Joint security team busts criminal hideout, arrests two in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with a vigilante group in Awka, has arrested two armed suspects and declared a notorious armed robber known as Akada wanted.

In a statement, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, revealed that the suspects were apprehended for illegal possession of firearms and enforcing an unlawful sit-at-home order.

“On November 25, 2024, at 10 a.m., a police-led Anti-Sit-at-Home Joint Patrol, working with Anambra Vigilante Operatives, disrupted a notorious criminal gang of three in the Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area. Two armed suspects were arrested, while the third suspect, identified as Akada, is wanted for armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and enforcing an illegal sit-at-home order,” the statement read.

During the operation, officers recovered an English-made pistol and other incriminating items.

The arrested suspects, identified as Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, both residents of Nkwelle-Ezunaka, were taken into custody following a pursuit. The chase began after a victim raised the alarm, reporting that the suspects had held him at gunpoint and stolen his iPhone and other belongings.

“The suspects confessed to the crime and identified Akada, currently at large, as their gang leader,” the statement added.

The police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members, promising to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
