The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed social media reports claiming that its leadership is collaborating with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
The allegations stemmed from a video where activist Deji Adeyanju claimed that the LP had entered into a partnership with Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.
In a statement on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, categorically denied the claims.
Ifoh emphasized that the party has repeatedly refuted allegations of any agreement with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to collaborate for the 2027 polls.
“As of today, the Labour Party stands as the most visible opposition party, and our National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, is a leading voice in holding the current government accountable,” Ifoh stated.
He noted that since the 2023 general election, the LP has been actively questioning systemic failures, critiquing government policies, proposing solutions, and playing a visible role as an opposition party.
“Under the leadership of Mr. Abure, the party has initiated several programs, including the establishment of an Electoral Reform Committee to advocate for credible, fair, and transparent electoral processes,” Ifoh added.
He also highlighted the formation of a Political Education Committee aimed at reorienting citizens on political engagement and the introduction of an e-membership registration system to deepen participatory democracy, which has already attracted thousands of subscribers.
“These efforts to reposition the party make it highly unfortunate and ridiculous for anyone to undermine us with baseless allegations,” Ifoh said.
The LP challenged Deji Adeyanju and others making such claims to provide concrete evidence that the party or its chairman, Julius Abure, is working with President Tinubu or the APC for the 2027 elections.
