The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has once again urged the Federal Government to urgently address the ongoing security issues affecting the state. The association emphasized that these challenges have already taken a toll on the already fragile healthcare sector.
In a press conference held in Gusau, Dr. Mohammed Murtala, the Vice Chairman of the Association, appealed to the Zamfara State Government to increase funding for healthcare and enhance the working conditions for health workers.
He highlighted that the NMA is not only focused on the outbreaks of cholera and diphtheria but is also committed to collaborating with the state government to address these diseases and improve health outcomes.
“In light of this, we have decided to focus on the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks during our 2024 Scientific Conference, which is part of our Physician Week activities,” he stated.
The NMA commended the governor for efforts to enhance health infrastructure, including equipping general hospitals throughout the state and renovating the Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the only tertiary facility in Zamfara.
The association called on the Zamfara State Government to bolster its response to the outbreaks of diphtheria and cholera and to work closely with various health unions within the state.
