After a two-week blackout, electricity has finally been restored in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, and in other areas of Nigeria’s North-East region, according to DAILY POST. The extended outage was attributed to the vandalism of multiple power stations.
Authorities have not yet provided details about the damage or named the individuals responsible for the vandalism. However, the return of power has brought relief to residents and businesses that struggled during the blackout.
Small business owners expressed to DAILY POST that the restoration has not only alleviated their difficulties but also enabled them to resume operations. They urged the state government and regional leaders to work with the power distribution company to prevent future outages and called for collaboration with security agencies to protect the equipment from vandalism.
Lazarus Udeh, a vulcanizer, emphasized that involving security operatives is essential to avoid recurring power failures in the area. He noted that the two-week outage had a detrimental effect on both individuals and the state government, urging officials to support the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for improved service.
Despite the restoration, some neighborhoods in Jalingo still face inconsistent power supply. A YEDC employee, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the company is tirelessly working to ensure reliable electricity access throughout the state.
