On Friday, the Department of State Services (DSS) blocked Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from meeting with his legal representatives. This information was shared by Kanu’s Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a post on X. Ejimakor noted that the DSS’s actions continue to defy a court order that allows Kanu to access his legal team.
He pledged to vigorously resume all previously halted legal proceedings in light of this latest incident. Ejimakor stated, “Today, in clear violation of an existing court order, the DSS prevented Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team from visiting him. Consequently, we will promptly and energetically continue all suspended legal actions to enforce compliance.” The DSS had also denied Kanu access to his lawyers in October. Kanu has been detained by the DSS since his rearrest and extraordinary rendition in 2021. Following this, the Abuja Federal High Court threatened to hold DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi in contempt.
