Court refuses to bar PDP from postponing October 24 NEC meeting in Abuja

The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has declined to prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from postponing its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at Wadata House in Abuja.

The court specifically refused to issue an order to stop the party from rescheduling the NEC meeting, where leadership disputes within the party are expected to be addressed.

In ruling on an ex-parte application brought by PDP member Mr. Imam Auwal, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim denied the request for an interim injunction against the postponement of the NEC meeting.

A certified true copy of the ruling obtained by DAILY POST confirmed the judge’s decision. Auwal, represented by his lawyer Ibrahim Ali, had requested the court to prevent the PDP from delaying the upcoming meeting and to recognize only the October 24 meeting as valid.

Additionally, Auwal sought an order to prohibit the National Working Committee (NWC) from recognizing Mr. Ali Odeifa, the suspended National Vice Chairman for the South East, as a party official.

However, after hearing arguments on the ex-parte motion, the judge opted not to grant any of Auwal’s requests. Instead, Justice Ibrahim instructed the plaintiff to notify the defendants about the substantive issue and set a hearing date for Friday, October 25.

The plaintiff had also sought an injunction against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent it from engaging with the PDP until a substantive National Chairman is appointed, a request that was similarly denied by Justice Ibrahim.
