Hardship: There’s severe hunger – Group begs Tinubu, wealthy Nigerians to act fast

The Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive steps to alleviate the growing hardships faced by citizens.

In a statement released on Sunday, Honourable Ismaila Yusuf Atus, the organization’s Executive Chairman, highlighted that the increasing fuel prices have significantly diminished the purchasing power of the populace.

He called for immediate government intervention to ease the suffering of the people, admitting that current measures are inadequate. The organization also encouraged NGOs, business leaders, and affluent individuals to collaborate and provide support to vulnerable communities.

Atus emphasized, “The hunger crisis is severe, exacerbated by rising fuel costs that make it difficult for many to afford basic nourishment. We urge those with NGOs to come together to support our communities and call on the government to implement measures that can alleviate our nation’s hardships.”

He acknowledged the government’s efforts and past initiatives but stressed the need for further action to lessen citizens’ struggles.

The statement appealed to wealthy Nigerians to contribute during this critical period, urging them to share their resources with those in need. Atus also implored business leaders and politicians to refrain from hoarding wealth while the general public suffers.

In light of these challenges, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative aims to raise N500 million to support two million Nigerians grappling with poverty. This plea comes after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited raised the price of petrol to N1,030 per litre, compounding the difficulties faced by many.
