Anambra govt busts syndicate producing fake drinks

The Anambra State Ministry of Health has uncovered an illegal wine factory that was producing various counterfeit exotic drinks, imitating genuine products.

In collaboration with the state’s paramilitary agency, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), the ministry arrested seven individuals at Nkpor, near Onitsha, and sealed off the facility.

OCHA Brigade officers raided the illicit factory, which had been mass-producing fake wines and other exotic beverages across the state.

The illegal operation had reportedly been running for years, manufacturing and distributing large quantities of unapproved counterfeit wines to the public.

A statement from the Anambra State Ministry of Health revealed, “The operation was led by the Federal Government’s Presidential Taskforce in collaboration with the Anambra State Government to combat economic sabotage and oil vandalism in the State.”

“Seven suspects were arrested, and others are currently being interrogated to uncover the syndicates responsible for the widespread distribution of fake products, which have led to numerous health issues among Ndi Anambra.”

The statement further indicated that the suspects have been arraigned and will face prosecution, with additional efforts underway to apprehend other accomplices.
