Sani Yabagi, the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, has called for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation from his role as Minister of Petroleum, arguing that his position is impeding efforts to address corruption in the oil and gas sector.
In an interview with AIT on Sunday, Yabagi criticized Tinubu’s dual role, suggesting that it would hinder investigations into the sector’s alleged corruption.
Yabagi stated, “It does not reflect well on him as it seems like he is protecting those involved in corruption. The oil sector is notorious for corruption, and Tinubu should not be the one shielding those responsible. When issues arise, the National Assembly cannot take action because the Minister is the President himself. This creates a situation where accountability is difficult, and no one in the sector has been prosecuted because you cannot sue the President.”
He added, “This sector is crucial, and if fraud is acknowledged, it should not be shielded. Nigerians deserve transparency and the opportunity to scrutinize the sector.”
According to DAILY POST, there have been ongoing allegations against the leadership in the oil and gas sector, contributing to a persistent fuel crisis in the country.
