Date for Enugu LG Elections remains sacrosanct – ENSIEC

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has confirmed that the Local Government Elections scheduled for September 21 in Enugu State will proceed as planned.

ENSIEC Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, stated this during a briefing with journalists in Enugu on Sunday. He emphasized that all preparations are complete for a smooth election for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.

Ngwu noted, “Those who believe the September 21 date might be altered are not considering the current situation. The commission is adhering to its schedule and has received the necessary financial backing from the state government to ensure a successful election.”

He added that the commission has established robust logistical arrangements and is coordinating with security agencies and other support organizations to ensure everything runs smoothly before, during, and after the elections.

Ngwu mentioned, “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure comprehensive and effective security for electoral materials, officials, and voters on election day. We are also working with an organization to conduct a three-day training workshop for 50 key electoral officials, including Electoral Officers (EOs), unit heads, and other staff. Those trained will, in turn, prepare the temporary electoral staff who will be recruited for each council area.”

He also revealed that over 10 political parties have expressed interest in participating in the elections, which will cover 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councillor seats in the state.
