The Emir of Damaturu, Dr. Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, has urged traders to support ordinary people by reducing the prices of essential goods in the state.
He expressed concern over the high and unaffordable prices of essential commodities for the common man.
Speaking from his palace in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, the Emir highlighted the hardships Nigerians face in various aspects of life.
“There is an urgent need to urge business tycoons to lower the prices of food items to make them affordable for the poor,” he stated.
The monarch called on traders in the state to do everything possible to reduce commodity prices in the interest of the people and to assist the less privileged.
He emphasized, “We are concerned about the rising prices of commodities in the state. We urge traders to make essential goods more affordable for the general public.”
He stressed that making excessive profits, especially on essential items like food, goes against moral principles.
He acknowledged the economic hardships faced by the less fortunate, particularly their struggles to afford essential food items in Yobe and across Nigeria.
The Emir advised traders to find ways to make their prices affordable to ordinary citizens without incurring financial losses.
He also encouraged organizations to increase their efforts to assist people with disabilities and those with fewer privileges.
