Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, aged 63, has died in a helicopter crash, CNN confirmed, citing reports from Iranian news outlets.
The report indicated that Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and seven others were also killed in the crash.
Previously, Atlantic Reporters reported that a helicopter carrying Raisi experienced a hard landing while visiting a northern region, with his condition initially unknown.
Raisi’s death occurs during a tumultuous time in the Middle East, with ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Iranian government convened an “urgent meeting” on Monday, as reported by the Iranian state news agency, IRNA.
