Afenifere urges South West govs to assist farmers in accessing loans, resources

The Afenifere group, representing the Yoruba community’s socio-political interests, has called upon southwestern state governments to allocate funds for interventions supporting farmers and addressing food insecurity. They emphasized the significant role of farming and agricultural development in fostering economic growth and ensuring food security. These statements were made following Afenifere’s caucus meeting held in Akure, Ondo State.

Jare Ajayi, Afenifere’s Publicity Secretary, urged Yoruba-speaking state governors in the South West to streamline access to loans for farmers. He highlighted that some federal-level facilities intended to support farmers are underutilized due to lack of awareness or accessibility issues. The caucus encouraged efforts to disseminate information about these resources and noted instances where state governments may need to provide counterpart funds to access federal funding for farmers.
