Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been freed from captivity after being held by his abductors for 11 days.
According to a report by Atlantic Reporters, Aziegbemi was kidnapped by armed individuals on Friday, March 15, 2024, around 11 pm, as he was entering his residence after a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N500 million for his release.
Senator Odion Ugbesia confirmed Aziegbemi’s release, stating, “Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory.”
In the meantime, a statement issued by Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi family, expressed gratitude to the public for their support and solidarity during the distressing incident.
“As members of the Aziegbemi family, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support and solidarity shown to us throughout the unfortunate and distressing abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, and for his safe release.
“We extend our sincere thanks to everyone… We deeply appreciate all your prayers and unwavering support,” the statement read.
