A fire occurred on Wednesday, destroying three buildings at the junction of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo streets in the Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State. Videos shared online by citizens revealed the extent of the damage. The State Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed the incident through its official channel, reporting that the fire engulfed two two-story buildings and one three-story building.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to contain the situation. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, issued a statement disclosing that emergency services were notified at 07:41 hours, and upon arrival at 07:58 hours, they found three buildings on fire. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there have been no reported casualties.
Adeseye urged residents to cooperate with emergency responders and avoid the area for their safety. In a related incident in January, it was reported that a fire at the Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, led to the loss of goods belonging to 6,700 traders. The fire also destroyed 450 shops, 30 offices, two hotels, and five restaurants, affecting the 14-storey building.
