Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has cautioned the recently inaugurated Permanent Secretaries of the FCT Administration to deliver on their responsibilities, emphasizing that failure to do so may result in dismissal.
Wike issued this warning following the inauguration of the Chairman and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, FCT Head of Service, and the Permanent Secretaries in Abuja on Monday.
He stressed the non-political nature of the role of permanent secretaries and highlighted the consequences of underperformance.
“If you fail to meet our expectations, there will be no formal disciplinary processes; we will simply remove you from your position as permanent secretary,” Wike asserted.
Addressing the issue of delays in handling official matters, he reiterated the need for efficient service delivery and urged the FCT workers to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in achieving its objectives outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike reminded the FCT employees of the prolonged struggle for the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission since the enactment of the law in 2018. He emphasized the importance of reciprocating President Tinubu’s efforts by demonstrating commitment and contributing to the success of his administration.
Furthermore, Wike disclosed that the newly appointed Head of Service would soon issue posting letters to Directors as part of his commitment to restructuring.
He also called upon the Coordinators of Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), and Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council (AIIC) to fulfill their duties diligently.
Specifically addressing the STDD coordinator, he emphasized the importance of monitoring developments in area councils in accordance with President Tinubu’s directives.
Similarly, he urged the AMMC coordinator to ensure that streetlights are operational, sanitation is maintained at a high standard, and public buildings are adequately maintained.
