A blaze has ravaged the motorcycle section of Sokoto Central Market.
According to an eyewitness, the fire ignited early Monday morning, although the exact cause remains uncertain.
However, another source indicated that the fire originated from a nearby dump site adjacent to the motorcycle section.
Responding to the incident, Shehu Muhammad, the chairman of the Motorcycles Marketers Association, expressed difficulty in estimating the extent of damage due to ongoing flames.
“We are unable to determine the number of motorcycles consumed by the fire at this time because it is still burning. Many individuals lost their shops and motorcycles as they were unable to respond promptly when the fire broke out around 6 a.m.,” he explained.
Muhammad noted that both federal and state fire services are currently engaged in firefighting efforts, but he anticipates it will take some time to fully extinguish the blaze.
He appealed to the state government to provide assistance to those affected by the inferno.
