Former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed deep sorrow and shock upon learning of the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
Through a statement released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Friday, the former President conveyed his heartfelt condolences.
The monarch, who had recently celebrated his second coronation anniversary, passed away unexpectedly.
Obasanjo, who was attending the 11th Global Baku Forum at the time, emphasized the remarkable qualities exhibited by the late monarch, highlighting his unblemished reputation for integrity and leadership.
He remarked, “His admirable traits set him apart, leaving behind a legacy of honesty, thoroughness, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the public. He demonstrated that politics should not be a platform for mere personal gain but an opportunity for selfless service.”
Furthermore, Obasanjo acknowledged the enduring impact of the late Olubadan’s contributions to the political, social, and economic spheres of Ibadan, Oyo State, the Western Region, and Nigeria as a whole. He praised the late monarch’s decency, amiability, and widespread influence, noting his significance as a role model in national leadership.
Obasanjo extended his condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the deceased’s family, and the people of Oyo State, urging them to find solace in the honorable legacy and profound impact the late monarch left behind. He emphasized the importance of expressing gratitude to God for the late Olubadan’s exemplary life.
