Tinubu appoints Dayo Mobereola NIMASA Director General

President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the appointment of Dr. Dayo Mobereola as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for an initial four-year term, subject to renewal.

This appointment comes in the wake of the departure of Mr. Bashir Jamoh, whose tenure recently ended.

Dr. Mobereola, who holds a PhD and an MSc in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, UK, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport, both in England and Nigeria.

His professional background includes serving as the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) from 2003 to 2015 and as the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State from 2015 to 2016. In the private sector, he held positions such as Deputy Managing Director and Project Development Director at AFM Consulting Plc, London, as well as Senior Economist at British Petroleum Shipping Limited, London.

According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, media aide to Tinubu, the President anticipates that Dr. Mobereola will leverage his extensive expertise in his new capacity to fulfill NIMASA’s mandate. This includes upholding global standards in maritime safety administration, regulating maritime labor, preventing and controlling marine pollution, facilitating search and rescue operations, enforcing cabotage regulations, promoting shipping development, and overseeing ship registration. These efforts align with the objectives outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda for the sector, under the guidance of the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
