The Military Special Task Force responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State has commended eight members of Operation Safe Haven for refusing a bribe of N1.5 million offered by suspected cattle rustlers in the state.
According to a statement from the task force spokesperson, Capt. Oya James, the eight personnel, stationed at OPSH Sector 4, intercepted 30 rustled cows owned by Shehu Umar at the Bisichi checkpoint in Barkin Ladi local government area. These cattle had been stolen from Mangu and were being transported to an undisclosed location when the task force troops, conducting a stop-and-search operation, apprehended them.
Upon interception, the occupants of the vehicle, Anas Usman, aged 20, and Gyang Cholly, aged 42, immediately attempted to bribe the troops to secure passage for the stolen cattle. However, the troops refused the bribe, and both suspects, along with the bribe money, were subsequently arrested.
The statement mentioned that Maj. Gen. Abubakar, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, presented a cash reward to the exemplary personnel, emphasizing the importance of exhibiting good conduct and bravery in the execution of their duties. He encouraged other security personnel to follow the lead of these eight individuals.
Brig. Gen. M.O. Agi, representing the commander during the reward ceremony, reiterated the call for personnel to emulate the outstanding behavior displayed by the eight personnel.
