A new conflict has erupted within the National Working Committee (NWC) of the opposition Labour Party (LP) regarding the alleged misappropriation of N3 billion intended for the 2023 election campaigns.
Last week, Barrister Julius Abure, the LP’s national chairman, refuted accusations of forgery against him and suggested that some party members were being financed to disrupt LP activities.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Mrs. Oluchi Oprah, the LP’s National Treasurer, accused Chairman Abure of embezzling over N3 billion out of the N3.5 billion collected for the 2023 election campaigns.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Oluchi stated that during Abure’s tenure, over N3.5 billion was raised through the sale of nomination forms for the 2023 general elections.
She further alleged that aside from the proceeds from form sales in his home state of Edo, which were diverted into Abure’s personal accounts, he only declared N55 million to her as Treasurer, thereby pocketing the remainder for himself.
