Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining initiatives that will enhance the well-being of citizens and foster a harmonious and peaceful state characterized by goodwill, love, unity, and prosperity.
In a message addressed to the people of the state, the Governor expressed optimism about a brighter future for the residents. He emphasized that the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth should serve as an opportunity for individuals to demonstrate love, share gifts, and spend quality time with the less privileged, friends, and family members.
Governor Alia underscored the significance of Christmas as a time for embracing enduring values such as compassion, tolerance, and forgiveness, transcending ethnic, cultural, and historical differences—values exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ. He noted the uniqueness of this year’s yuletide, marking his first year in office as governor after assuming the democratically elected position, assuring the people that his administration is committed to not letting them down.
The Governor appealed to the people of Benue to avoid actions that undermine unity, urging them to coexist harmoniously irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political affiliations. He cautioned against falling prey to divisive tactics, pointing out media propaganda tactics such as press conferences, manipulated videos, doctored audio files, and misinformation. Governor Alia encouraged vigilance and discernment in recognizing those who neglect their legislative duties in Abuja to instead propagate hate, emphasizing the need for unity among the people.
Additionally, he urged citizens to extend kindness by visiting the sick and offering shelter to those who may be unable to celebrate Christmas at home due to insurgency, violence, or displacement, particularly the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
