Nigerian army gets first professor

On Friday, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna announced the elevation of Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam to the position of Professor of Mechatronics Engineering. This milestone marks the first instance of a serving personnel achieving the rank of professor in the history of the Nigerian Army.

Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, the Registrar of the Academy, revealed this promotion in a statement released in Kaduna State on Friday. The announcement clarified that the promotion received formal approval during the NDA Council Meeting held in September, with its implementation effective from October 1, 2023.

The registrar emphasized that the council’s decision reflected their confidence in and recognition of Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam’s significant contributions to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Academy. He commended the new professor for delivering exemplary services and maintaining the expected standard of excellence in his field.

Tukur highlighted that this recognition not only honored Professor Imam but also underscored the Nigerian Defence Academy’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community.
