The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, asserts that despite the recent ruling by the Appeal Court, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, who was ousted from office, will still face defeat in the Supreme Court. Ganduje made this declaration while speaking to reporters at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
In a recap, the Appeal Court in Abuja upheld the decision of the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier invalidated Governor Yusuf’s election from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The court affirmed that the APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, rightfully won the governorship election held on March 18 in Kano.
Addressing Governor Yusuf’s appeal, the three-member panel, led by Justice M.A Adumeh, stated that the NNPP candidate was ineligible to contest the election, citing his non-membership in the party at the time of the election.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in regaining victory at the Supreme Court following the Appeal Court’s decision. However, Ganduje, jubilant about the Appeal Court’s ruling, insisted that the APC candidate would emerge victorious at the Supreme Court as well. Ganduje expressed gratitude for the judgment, attributing it to the judiciary’s commitment to justice despite the distractions throughout the case. He emphasized the significance of the ruling for democracy, the APC, and Kano State, acknowledging the democratic process that allows appeals to the Supreme Court. Ganduje affirmed their readiness to face the legal challenge at the Supreme Court, expressing confidence in winning the case there too.
