Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has issued an order for the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to be held in Kuje prison until the court determines his bail application on November 22.
The decision came after Emefiele’s lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, presented the bail application, which was strongly opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.
Following arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu explained that a bench ruling couldn’t be delivered due to the numerous legal references provided by the parties. The judge expressed the need for some time to review the authorities and examine the exhibits submitted by Emefiele in support of his bail request.
As of now, officials from the Kuje prison have been informed to arrange a vehicle for Emefiele’s transfer to the prison, where he will remain until the court reaches a decision on his bail on November 22.
