Governor Hope Uzodimma, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), was officially declared the winner of the gubernatorial election in Imo State that took place on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made this announcement on Sunday in Owerri.
Prof Abayomi Fasina, the State Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, declared that the governor secured 540,308 votes, surpassing other candidates.
INEC reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, came in a distant second with 71,503 votes, while the Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, secured the third position with 64,081 votes.
