Ahead guber election, Army flags off Operation Safe Conduct in Imo

In preparation for the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, Major General Hassan Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, has initiated “Operation Safe Conduct” in Imo State. The launch of this operation took place in a brief ceremony held at the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Obinze, Owerri, on Wednesday.

Dada characterized this operation as “a measure employed by the Nigerian military to ensure the safety of all participants in the electoral process.” He also mentioned that a demonstration of force would be conducted by officers across the three senatorial districts of the state in the lead-up to the election.

The primary purpose of this exercise is to instill confidence in the voters and assure them of adequate security for the upcoming election. Dada instructed his officers to maintain impartiality and familiarize themselves with the Nigerian Army’s Code of Conduct for election duty while collaborating with other security agencies.

Addressing the troops, he emphasized, “Our mission is to guarantee that people can participate in the electoral process smoothly while remaining neutral. You must safeguard all INEC officials and election materials without tampering with the materials. There will be no tolerance for any shortcomings, and no excuses will be accepted. Do not entertain any unauthorized information from anyone; if you are found wanting, you will face a military court-martial.”

Dada also issued a stern warning to individuals considering causing trouble, stating, “Those intent on causing disruption will face our formidable response; we are thoroughly prepared to handle any challenges.”
