Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has pledged not to treat the security and well-being of Corps members in the state lightly or as a trivial matter.
Governor Diri made this commitment during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch C, Stream I corps members who have been deployed to the state for their mandatory one-year national service.
He emphasized the importance of providing a conducive environment for effective service and expressed his optimism and support for the goals, programs, and activities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Matilde Abrakasa Ayemieye, administered the oath to the 1301 corps members deployed to the state.
The Governor, represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Wisdom Poyeri, encouraged the newly sworn-in corps members to deliver high-quality service to the state and the entire nation. He stressed that the nation relies on them for both quality service and leadership.
Governor Diri also urged the corps members to actively participate in all camp activities to enhance their sense of citizenship and leadership skills. He assured that his administration would continue to support the NYSC scheme in its pursuit of its objectives.
In her welcoming speech, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, mentioned that all the deployed corps members have been registered and are gradually adapting to the demands of the orientation exercise. She commended the Executive Governor for the ongoing construction of two additional hostels and drainage facilities at the camp and encouraged the timely completion of the work to accommodate more corps members in the state.
