On Tuesday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State presented the 2024 budget, totaling over 295 billion naira, to the State House of Assembly. He outlined that 53.33 percent of the budget is allocated to recurrent expenditures, while 46.66 percent is allocated to capital expenditures.
During the presentation of the budget, which he named “The Budget of New Beginnings,” Governor Mutfwang stated, “This budget has a total of 295,434,568,464.00 naira. This amount consists of a recurrent component of 157,563,316,462.00 naira, representing 53.33% of the total budget size, and a capital estimate of 137,871,251,992.00 naira, representing 46.66% of the total budget estimate.”
He further explained that the total budget size reflects an increase of 145,483,233,873.00 naira compared to the 2023 approved budget.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the budget aims to establish a strong foundation for peace and prosperity in Plateau State. The administration’s vision and mission are to address issues related to security, agriculture, human capital development, public health, industrialization, and aggressive revenue generation.
In his closing remarks, the Governor expressed his hope that the budget would be promptly considered. He appealed to the Speaker and members of the House to carefully review and deliberate on the budget, and he looked forward to their mutual understanding and cooperation to ensure the budget’s swift passage for timely implementation.
In response, the Speaker of the House, Moses Sule, assured that the House would diligently perform its responsibilities and work to pass the budget promptly.
