The Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos is set to undergo extensive repairs, with the Federal Government allocating N15 billion for this purpose as revealed in the recently approved N2.18 trillion 2023 supplementary budget. Furthermore, the government has acknowledged a debt of N11.4 billion to the contractors working on the Eko/Marine Bridges project.
Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, has officially announced that the repair work on the Third Mainland Bridge will commence on Monday, November 6, 2023. This repair project is expected to last for five weeks.
In light of this development, the public is informed that the repair work will kick off with the closure of the ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos-Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle, both simultaneously. These two ramps will be inaccessible to traffic starting at 7 am on Monday, November 6, 2023.
During the presentation of the supplementary budget for the Ministry of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister, expressed concern about the persistent deterioration of bridges across the nation. He highlighted the challenging state of the country’s road infrastructure, pointing out that when he assumed office, they inherited 18,897 kilometers of road with a total cost of N14 trillion. To date, approximately N3.1 trillion has been disbursed, leaving an outstanding certificate amounting to N1.6 trillion.
