Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has emphasized the need for accountability following their 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. The Red Devils were eliminated from the competition in front of their home fans.
Ten Hag had previously ended the club’s six-year trophy drought by securing the Carabao Cup earlier this year. However, their recent performance has taken a downturn, with the loss to Newcastle marking their eighth defeat in 15 matches this season, coming on the heels of a 3-0 loss to Manchester City the previous weekend.
“We are fully aware that this level of performance is unacceptable. We all need to take responsibility for it, and that includes me,” Ten Hag stated. “Our display fell short of our standards, and I feel for the fans. We need to rectify this situation.
“We must recover from this setback, and we need to do so swiftly. The next game is on Saturday against Fulham, and we must raise our performance levels. This simply isn’t good enough.”
