BREAKING: Court orders unconditional release of ex-CBN gov Emefiele

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has issued a mandate for the immediate and unconditional release of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. This decision was rendered by Justice O.A. Adeniyi in response to an ex-parte motion filed by Emefiele.

In his motion, the former CBN governor requested his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) while awaiting the final determination of the primary motion.

After reviewing the motion, the judge ordered Emefiele’s release. Emefiele had listed the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, and the EFCC itself as the parties involved.

The court instructed the 3rd and 4th respondents (the Executive Chairman and the EFCC) to promptly release Emefiele without conditions. Alternatively, they were directed to present him in court on the specified date for the hearing of the main motion, with the possibility of being granted bail by the court.

The court has scheduled the hearing of the main motion for Monday, November 6, 2023.
