FCT: I won’t be distracted by lies – Wike tells Muslim, Christian leaders

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, emphasized that his actions as minister are always guided by the national interest, and he will not be swayed by baseless attacks on social media. He made this statement while receiving delegations from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Committee of League of Imams Initiative, who paid separate courtesy visits to the FCTA.

Addressing recent false information circulating on social media, especially regarding the National Mosque, Wike urged the public to verify information and seek clarification from the Administration, particularly regarding government policies and actions. He encouraged people to question and confirm the accuracy of what they hear or read about the FCT’s initiatives.

Wike also cautioned against the divisive tactics of certain politicians who use religion to sow discord in the country for their political gains. He urged religious leaders to be cautious about the messages they read and convey to their congregations, emphasizing the importance of praying for the success of the government in power, regardless of personal views.

He stressed the need for unity and understanding in the face of the country’s economic challenges and expressed his commitment to maintaining national monuments such as the National Christian Center and Abuja National Mosque.

In response, the President of CAN, His Eminence Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, expressed confidence in Wike’s ability to bring positive transformations to the FCT and pledged the association’s support for his administration. He emphasized the importance of working towards Christian unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.

Imam Tajudeen Adigun, the Chairman of the Committee, League of Imams Initiative, explained the organization’s mission to promote unity among Muslims and peaceful coexistence with members of other faiths. He commended Wike as a true Nigerian and expressed the readiness of the League of Imams to collaborate with him and dismiss disinformation aimed at creating disharmony in society.
