Singer Brymo, also known as Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, has accused Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy of appropriating his intellectual property. Brymo alleges that Burna Boy’s songs ‘City Boys’ and ‘I Told Them’ have sampled the title track from his forthcoming album, ‘Macabre.’ He contends that what Burna Boy did amounts to a “crime” and should result in a prison sentence.
Brymo expressed his concerns on his Instagram account, stating, “By the end of this year, you will all remember that ‘Macabre’ was not released to the public, and as discreet as it gets, ‘City Boy’ and ‘I Told You’ were given to Burna Boy.”
He goes on to say, “The use of one of the track titles I mentioned above is there to indicate that the latter, along with his album title, is derived from the hook I sing on my album’s title track ‘Macabre.’ Burna is truly something else, and that’s a crime. An actual crime… punishable by imprisonment. And if you folks decide to bring back legendary artists to complain about stolen songs… you will regret this to many degrees… Aren’t you paying attention?”
