Rema, the acclaimed Nigerian afrobeats superstar whose real name is Divine Ikubor, had an encounter with Rwandan President Paul Kagame at the presidential palace in Kigali on Sunday. The meeting took place after Rema’s participation in the 2023 Trace Music Awards held in Kigali on Saturday, where he received recognition as the Global African Artist of the Year and also won the Song of the Year award for ‘Calm Down.’
During his visit to the President, the music sensation expressed his thoughts, stating, “Being in Rwanda gives me the feeling of a place where I can relax and feel at home without the need to travel abroad. Many times, we just long for that break, that opportunity to unwind. I sense that here we can absorb a tranquil energy, a particular ambiance. And I believe that this unity among Africans will become an even more significant force.”
He extended his gratitude to President Kagame, saying, “I want to express my heartfelt thanks, Mr. President.”
