Blue Rail: Train track not marketplace – Lagos gov warns as LRMT resumes

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a caution to residents, advising them to refrain from engaging in any unlawful activities along the rail tracks in the state. The governor conveyed this warning on Monday via his official social media account, expressing his satisfaction with the resumption of the Rail Mass Transit (LRM) Blue Line.

He clarified that the temporary suspension of the LRM was done to ensure the safety of commuters, and there are plans to introduce additional rail lines to enhance transportation in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also highlighted that the LRM has been reinvigorated, with the number of daily trips increasing from 12 to 54. He mentioned that this number is expected to further rise to 74 by the end of November, thanks to the diligent efforts of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (@Lamataonline).

In his post, the governor stated, “I am pleased to announce that the LRMT Blue Line is back in operation and running with an increased number of trips, from 12 to 54 daily. The service will further improve to 74 daily trips by the end of November. The first trip begins at 6:30 a.m., offering you a more convenient daily commute with a predictable schedule, along with the convenience of the Cowry Card and discounts to help you manage your expenses more efficiently.”

He emphasized the importance of not trespassing on the rail tracks for any illicit or unauthorized activities, reiterating that these tracks are not a marketplace.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reassured the public that efforts are underway to introduce additional rail lines to enhance transportation options in Lagos, expressing gratitude for the patience of the residents as they continue to work towards building a better Lagos.
