Senator Ali Ndume and others have raised concerns about Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s practice of passing bills without sufficient notice and member input. In a video from Thursday’s session, Senator Ali Ndume from Borno south district expressed his dissatisfaction with the speed at which bills, including financial bills, are passed without proper deliberation and contributions from members. He emphasized that this approach is not in the best interest of Nigeria.
Senator Ogoshi Onawo from Nasarawa State also criticized the rushed passage of important bills, noting that history would judge such actions as detrimental to the country. In response, Akpabio defended the bills’ quality, stating that they are intended to benefit Nigerians and that history would vindicate him. This discussion occurred following rumors of an impeachment process against Akpabio three weeks ago, which were subsequently denied by the Senate. It’s worth noting that Senator Ali Ndume had led the campaign to make Akpabio the Senate President in June 2023.
