Inter Miami suffer first defeat since Messi’s arrival

Inter Miami lost their first game since Lionel Messi joined the club, going down 5-2 to Atlanta United on Saturday.

Messi was left out of the matchday squad due to “muscular fatigue”, and the team missed his presence as they were outplayed by their opponents.

Atlanta took a comfortable lead in the first half, with goals from Tristan Muyumba, Brooks Lennon and an own goal from Kamal Miller.

Georgios Giakoumakis and Tyler Wolff added to the scoring in the second half, while Leonardo Campana scored twice for Miami in a consolation effort.

The defeat ends Miami’s 12-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, and leaves them in fifth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Atlanta United move up to sixth place in the table after their victory.
